Monday Morning Mumblings, part II — Modano milestone, Rangers bashing edition
by Michelle Finch
- In case anyone is still paying attention to the Nashville ownership saga, ESPN has an article saying the drop dead date for this purchase to happen to approaching quickly, and things better get moving pronto. Of course, this date is only for “exclusive” negotiating rights, and from what we’ve seen the odds of anyone else being permitted to enter into the deal is slim. Just ask Jim Balsillie.
- Let the Modo-watch begin: With just three more points, Mike Modano will become the leading US-born points scorer in NHL history. Joe Mullen currently holds the record at 1232.
Even more impressive is that Modano has managed to do it all with the same franchise.
- Canucks still can’t win at home, and are 2-5 in their last seven. In other news, I never would have guessed Henrik Zetterberg was the current leading NHL scorer.
- Toskala gets positive press coverage. Ok that shouldn’t be a headline in itself, but maybe for Toskala it was a nice change of pace. I guess at this point, people should be more concerned with the Rangers. If your team can barely manage one goal against the most scored on team in the league, with possibly the most maligned goaltender…. something is very wrong on Broadway.
- Niklas Backstrom is out with a groin strain. The Wild have been faltering lately, is this just another minor setback or the breaking point?
